In September 2025, the CFL announced a two-step overhaul. Starting this season, the rouge is modified: a missed field goal that goes wide, or a punt or kickoff that goes through the end zone untouched, no longer earns a single point. The point still counts if the ball settles in the end zone and the returner doesn't bring it out or takes a knee. A 35-second play clock also starts automatically after every play.
For bettors, that means fewer "free" points late in games: totals and tight spreads don't read quite the same way anymore. In 2027 the overhaul goes further, with a 100-yard field, 15-yard end zones and goalposts at the back of the end zone; the league projects about 60 more touchdowns per season.
On October 12, Thanksgiving Monday, the Alouettes host the Roughriders in a rematch of last year's final (see our Alouettes guide). The Grey Cup returns to Calgary for the sixth time, the first since 2019; it airs on TSN and CTV, and in French on RDS.
